Remote Technical Director (Games)

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced and visionary Remote Technical Director to lead technical development for their game projects. Working remotely, you will define the technical strategy, oversee engine development, and ensure the performance, scalability, and stability of our games. This role is critical for guiding our engineering teams and pushing the boundaries of what's possible in interactive entertainment. Key Responsibilities

• Define and drive the overall technical direction and architecture for game projects.
• Lead and mentor remote engineering teams, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
• Oversee engine development, performance optimization, and platform integration.
• Collaborate with creative leads to ensure technical feasibility and innovative solutions for game features.
• Establish and enforce coding standards, best practices, and development processes across distributed teams in Upington .
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical challenges, ensuring project timelines and quality goals are met.

Requirements

• Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 15+ years of experience in game development, with at least 5 years in a senior technical leadership role (e.g., Lead Programmer, Technical Director).
• Deep expertise in C++, game engine architecture (Unreal Engine, Unity), and performance optimization techniques.
• Proven experience leading and managing large, distributed engineering teams effectively.
• Strong understanding of software development lifecycles, debugging, and system architecture.
• Demonstrated ability to make critical technical decisions and guide projects to successful completion.
• Experience working in a remote-first environment and contributing to projects based in the Northern Cape .
