Project Director / Director of Special Projects

I am representing a leading, PE-backed renewable energy platform in Germany that is looking to appoint a Project Director / Director of Special Projects to take full ownership of a major, multi-technology energy project in the Berlin region.

The company is an established renewable energy developer and IPP with a strong track record across onshore wind, solar PV, repowering, agri-PV, BESS and hybrid energy systems, with activities spanning project development, construction and asset management.

The Opportunity

The successful candidate will take overall responsibility for the development and execution of a large-scale renewable energy project combining solar PV, battery storage and associated energy infrastructure.

This is a genuinely senior, hands-on position where you will act as the central point of coordination across development, commercial, technical and execution activities.

You will be expected to own the project end-to-end, manage complex stakeholder relationships and drive the project through the remaining development stages towards construction and execution.

This is not a role focused on one individual workstream. The successful candidate will have broad responsibility across the project and significant autonomy in determining how to move it forward.

Key Responsibilities

• Take overall responsibility for the development, construction and execution of a large-scale multi-technology renewable energy project
• Own project budgets, schedules, milestones and quality targets
• Coordinate technical, commercial and development workstreams throughout the project lifecycle
• Manage relationships with key stakeholders including authorities, landowners, grid operators, equipment suppliers, consultants and contractors
• Lead negotiations and resolve complex project, grid and infrastructure issues
• Work closely with finance, construction and controlling teams on contract management, risk management and project economics
• Identify and manage project risks, dependencies and critical decisions
• Ensure effective communication across internal and external stakeholders
• Act as the senior project owner, ensuring successful progression from development through to execution

Your Background

We are looking for an experienced renewable energy project leader who is comfortable taking ownership of complex, large-scale projects.

Ideally, you will bring:

• 5+ years' experience leading the development of large-scale renewable energy projects
• Strong experience across PV and BESS, ideally including hybrid or co-located projects
• Experience across the full project development and construction lifecycle
• Knowledge of agri-PV would be advantageous
• Experience managing large budgets, complex contracts and regulatory frameworks
• Strong understanding of grid, permitting, land and infrastructure-related project requirements
• Excellent leadership, communication and negotiation skills
• A structured, commercially minded and highly execution-focused approach
• The ability to operate effectively across multiple disciplines and stakeholder groups
• Fluent German and strong English
