Job Description

Director of Finance

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer Status: Full-time

Position Purpose

The Director of Finance leads CLIA’s finance function and supports sound organizational decision-making through reliable financial information, effective controls and thoughtful analysis. The Director works closely with the CEO, staff, external advisors and service providers across all CLIA programs.

As a senior leader in a small organization, the Director operates with considerable independence and contributes beyond traditional accounting responsibilities when their expertise can benefit CLIA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and management analysis.
  • Monitor CLIA’s capital position, including Minimum Capital Test results and future capital requirements.
  • Coordinate investment management, performance monitoring and reporting.
  • Prepare regulatory financial filings and support compliance with applicable accounting and insurance requirements.
  • Maintain and improve internal controls, financial policies, processes and accounting systems.
  • Coordinate the external audit, tax compliance and financial work involving CLIA’s actuaries and other professional advisors.
  • Support enterprise risk management, scenario analysis and organizational planning.
  • Oversee cybersecurity governance and support the effective management of CLIA’s technology systems and service providers.
  • Provide financial analysis and decision support across CLIA’s mandatory insurance, voluntary insurance, cyber and compensation fund programs.
  • Prepare clear financial information and advice for the CEO, Board and Board committees.
  • Contribute to organizational projects and priorities where financial, analytical or systems expertise is required.

Skills

Qualifications and Experience

  • Significant progressive experience in financial management, reporting, budgeting, controls and analysis.
  • Ability to understand complex issues and communicate them clearly to both financial and non-financial audiences.
  • Strong judgment, initiative and ability to work independently in a small, collaborative organization.
  • Experience with insurance, financial services, regulated organizations or not-for-profit organizations is considered an asset.
  • Experience with investments, enterprise risk management, cybersecurity governance or systems modernization is considered an asset.
