Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is a private, international humanitarian organization that provides emergency medical aid to people in crisis and conflict zones. For a six-year term, we are seeking a General Director who will be responsible for Médecins Sans Frontières Germany / Ärzte ohne Grenzen e.V. both in Germany and internationally.

Your Responsibilities • Lead the organization in Germany, balancing growth, development, and financial performance, while ensuring responsible use of donations for global operations. • Lead the management team and promote cross‑departmental collaboration and accountability. • Champion MSF Germany’s EDI Vision and Commitment, embedding equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti‑racism in strategy, structures, culture, and day‑to‑day operations. • Represent MSF in engagements with policymakers, the public, and similar organisations, advocating on humanitarian issues while upholding independence, impartiality, neutrality, and humanity. • Handle crisis management and coordinate communications in crisis situations with international units, while being accountable for deployed staff. • Strengthen the link between the Berlin office and project country activities, ensuring close connection to humanitarian operations. • Report directly to the Board of MSF Germany and, through the Board, to the Association of MSF Germany, fostering a trusting relationship to strengthen resilience during challenging times. • Play an active role within MSF’s broader international network and governing bodies, contributing to decisions, strategy, governance, and transformation of the international movement.

Your Profile • Identify with MSF’s values and principles, embody them, and possess a clearly positioned, visionary personality. • Hold a university degree or other professional qualification combined with relevant work experience suitable for this role. • Have long‑standing management and leadership experience, ideally in comparable complex international organisational structures. • Preferably bring experience in medical and humanitarian aid worldwide and familiarity with project country realities. • Adopt a feminist leadership style characterised by equity, shared power, transparency, accountability, self‑care and care for others, and social justice. • Have experience dealing with the media, communicating on controversial issues, and positioning organisations publicly. • Be based in Berlin and be prepared for regular international travel. • Possess English and German language skills at a professional level (C1 or above) and communicate effortlessly in both.
