This position is also responsible for driving procurement excellence across procurement, setting the role as very strategic and important in the global procurement team. The leader in this role will have overall team size of 15+ team members which includes direct reporting of 3 category management leads and a lead of Data Analytics and governance.
The leader is expected to deepen category management capabilities, build a capable, and high performing team. Partner with advanced sourcing teams to deploy sourcing choices guided by sourcing strategies. Develop talent capability to build high performing category management and procurement excellence team (including data analytics and governance).
This responsibility includes team performance management. Provide on-site leadership presence to Germany based procurement team, and represent E2E procurement in EU regional forums. Proven track record in leading cross-functional teams and executing significant influencing roles.

The Procurement leadership in Heart recovery business unit of Johnson & Johnson MedTech is currently recruiting a Director of category management and Procurement Excellence. The position will be based in Aachen, Germany. Johnson & Johnson MedTech is a world leader in heart recovery that provides circulatory support and oxygenation.
Our products are designed to enable the heart to rest and recover by improving blood flow and/or providing sufficient oxygenation to those in respiratory failure. The position of Director, Category Management and Procurement Excellence reports to the Senior Director of Global Procurement.
This new position will be accountable to oversee external spending of all direct materials including precision materials, external manufacturing, and electronics categories used in Abiomed products.
Direct materials play an important role in Abiomed success and hence stronger category management in this spending will drive amplified business impact. The incumbent will be responsible for driving end-to-end spend performance including supply security, risk management, sourcing strategies and innovation.
This role offers future growth opportunities and requires a candidate with proven strong performance, balanced depth on operational and strategic procurement and supply chain topics, and strong people management skills.
Responsibilities Build and shape strong supplier network to deliver current and future quality expectations, supply reliability, innovation and costs. Manage and elevate key strategic supplier relationships by partnering with cross functions across quality, planning, supplier engineering and R&D.
Support quality remediations efforts in current supplier network by collaborating with supplier quality. Deepen sourcing strategies, risk management and contracting excellence in direct materials by ensuring adequate supplier capacity for growth with efficient costs.
Deliver cost efficiency across TCO through sourcing capabilities and cross functional collaboration. Drive procurement excellence roadmap by accelerating deployment and adopting new capabilities. Engage with peer functional directors cross functionally, and with J&J enterprise peer category directors to leverage and deploy best practices.
Engage and shape sourcing solutions in key strategic programs (e.g. network strategies, business continuity planning, long-range financial planning etc.). Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree required, MBA or advanced degree preferred.
Experienced professional in senior roles, with at least 15 years of business experience in procurement or in supply chain functions with deep experience in procurement. High level understanding of business operations and practices and core Procurement areas of focus (e.g.
Category Management, Supplier Management, contract management, Supply Chain Integration, Business planning, Performance Management). Strong customer orientation (building and maintaining strong relationships with J&J senior Management).
Strong leadership, vision/strategy setting, communication, influencing, collaboration, talent development skills are key. Minimum of 7 years of people leadership experience, demonstrated through J&J or similar professional environment.
Strong influencing skills with ability to see issues from multiple viewpoints and understand differing needs of stakeholders (e.g., businesses, Procurement LT, Marketing, R&D, Supply Chain); has presence. Strong verbal and written communication skill with ability to confidently present complex information. Fluent German and English language skills.
Ability to continuously improve the organization. Proven track record in attracting and developing talent. Demonstrated flexibility and willingness to respond to changes in the external environment, while ensuring the organization is able to effectively and efficiently move through transitions. Able to travel frequently (~30% or less).
