Technical Understanding Strong understanding of modern software development practices, CI/CD, and DevOps. Collaborative mindset to work with editorial, product, and commercial teams.

Role Technology Director Department: TBD Reports to: Managing Director Location: Geneva, Switzerland Type: Full-time Role Summary The Technology Director is responsible for supporting and enabling Sandmark’s business strategy through developing IT structures, resourcing and vendor management.

This role oversees data-engineering operations, technical partnerships, and platform development, along with related personnel. The Technology Director owns the technical roadmap, ensuring delivery with quality, reliability, and speed, and promotes best practices and thorough documentation for future sustainability.

The role connects editorial, product, and commercial needs to scalable technical solutions and drives cross-functional collaboration. The ideal candidate has experience building sustainable technology structures, managing budgets, and communicating complex technical opportunities to management.

Key Responsibilities Product Delivery & Execution: Own end-to-end delivery of Sandmark’s technical structure, organization, and internal/external resourcing. Set realistic project timelines and ensure they are met. Remove blockers to shipping. Provide frequent progress updates. Ensure quality standards before releases.

Manage UAT and track/resolve defects. Product Planning & Technical Translation: Transform business requirements into actionable technology plans. Assess build options and recommend efficient, cost-effective approaches. Break down roadmap items into technical workstreams with estimated effort, cost, and timelines.

Ensure plans are accessible to non-technical stakeholders. Conduct performance reviews and address underperformance. Ensure efficient operation with clear ownership. Vendor & Contractor Management: Own relationships with external vendors/agencies. Monitor performance against scope, timelines, and quality.

Budget & Cost Accountability: Prepare and own the technical budget (headcount, cloud, tooling, vendors). Monitor monthly spend and flag risks with mitigations. Optimise cloud and infrastructure spend and review contract renewals for cost-effectiveness. Participate in company-wide strategic decisions with a technical lens.

Infrastructure & Operations: Oversee cloud infrastructure reliability, security, and cost-efficiency. Establish DevOps practices for rapid deployment. Ensure monitoring and incident response. Manage the technical backlog to support delivery. Drive automation across the technical function.

Required Qualifications Experience & Expertise 7+ years in technical leadership roles, preferably in fintech, financial services, media, or startups. Proven track record of shipping products on time in fast-paced environments. Experience managing external vendors, agencies, and contractors. Experience owning and budgeting technical environments.

Background in data-intensive environments, market data, streaming, or analytics preferred. Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure (GCP preferred). Ability to review code, architecture decisions, and trade-offs without daily coding. Familiarity with cloud cost management and infrastructure optimization.

Understanding of data pipelines, streaming systems, and API design. Experience translating business requirements into actionable developer stories and tasks. Leadership & Communication Clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Direct, transparent communication; flag problems early and propose solutions.
