Role specialisation Market Infrastructure Working time Full time Place of work Frankfurt am Main, Germany Closing date 01.09.2026 Your team You will be part of the Product Division in the Directorate Digital Euro, which is part of the ECB’s Directorate General Market Infrastructure and Payments.
In your role as Team Lead for digital euro online use cases, you will manage the team working to define the digital euro online use cases, including standards and requirements for peer-to-peer, point-of-sale and e-commerce digital euro payments as well as ATM transactions involving digital euro.
The team also supports the agile development of the digital euro platform, assuming the business owner role for some of its components.
This includes close engagement with external standard owners and constant alignment with the other teams in the digital euro team to further refine the design of the digital euro product and translate the requirements into functional and technical specifications.
Your role • lead the work to define the product features for the online digital euro; • refine the proposed use cases by leading the work on the specification of the functional and non-functional requirements; • liaise with a variety of stakeholders, including Eurosystem national central banks, governance groups, market participants and standard-setting organisations; • manage the day-to-day tasks of team members, ensuring deliverables are achieved and milestones are met; • coordinate with other team leads to ensure cross-functional support is provided across the Division and the Directorate.

Qualifications, Experience And Skills Essential: • a master’s degree or equivalent in business administration, economics, finance, project management, law, political science, a STEM subject (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), computer science or another relevant field (see How you can join us for details on degree equivalences); • in addition to the above, a minimum of six years’ professional experience (excluding internships/traineeships) in retail payments and/or in the design of a large-scale, consumer-facing payment or financial product, either in a product role or as a consultant; • expert knowledge of the payments system landscape; • experience engaging with internal and external stakeholders to address their needs, while ensuring project deliverables are achieved; • experience managing teams and/or coordinating people, projects or transversal activities; • proven analytical skills and experience drafting concise and clear notes and reports; • an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

In our Division, we are currently working on defining and developing the digital euro product for consumers, merchants and intermediaries, as well as designing both the offline and online functionalities.
The Division also explores innovative solutions in collaboration with private sector partners and develops the strategic roadmap that will guide the transition from the pilot phase to the full product launch. You will also interact with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

Desired: • experience working on standards for front-end payment solutions; • experience deploying a payment solution at a physical point of sale; • technical understanding of aspects related to payment instruments, e.g.
QR code design, tokenisation, authentication mechanisms and/or near-field communication (NFC) functionalities; • understanding of regulatory requirements applicable to payments products. You engage collaboratively with others. You signal any need for change by explaining it and proposing alternative solutions.
You analyse complex information effectively and can evaluate different views to arrive at solutions. You know and anticipate stakeholder needs. Temporary appointments may be extended or made permanent subject to organisational needs and budgetary constraints.
This may result in a staff member with a non-convertible fixed-term contract being offered a convertible contract in accordance with the ECB Conditions of Employment.
