The Role

We are looking for a Financial Director who combines strong financial discipline with commercial judgment.

This is not simply a reporting role.

The Financial Director will work closely with the CEO and management team on the financial strategy of the business, capital allocation, funding, working capital, risk management and major commercial decisions.

You will have responsibility for:

• Cash-flow forecasting and working-capital management
• Management of banking facilities and funding relationships
• Budgeting, forecasting and financial planning
• Monthly management accounts and financial reporting
• Board and shareholder reporting
• Financial controls, governance and statutory compliance
• Customer and supplier credit-risk assessment
• Evaluating margins, returns and commercial structures
• Analysing new investments and capital-allocation opportunities
• Managing insurance, tax and external financial advisers
• Leading and developing the finance function
• Working closely with commercial, logistics and operations teams
• Providing the CEO with clear financial insight before major decisions are made

A major part of the role will be understanding where the company earns its return, where capital is tied up, and where financial or commercial risk is being taken.

Who We Are Looking For

Ideally, you will have:

• CA(SA), CIMA or equivalent professional finance qualification
• Approximately 3–8 years of strong post-qualification commercial experience
• Experience in a Financial Manager, Financial Controller, Commercial Finance or similar senior finance role
• Strong understanding of cash flow, working capital and debt facilities
• Excellent financial modelling and analytical ability
• Experience preparing and interpreting management accounts and financial statements
• Strong commercial judgment and an ability to challenge assumptions
• Experience in commodities, mining, logistics, manufacturing, trading or another working-capital-intensive business would be advantageous
• Confidence dealing with banks, auditors, insurers, shareholders and senior executives
• High integrity and a disciplined approach to financial control
